Reading Children: A Book Talk by Patricia Crain

October 8, 2018 - 4:00pm to 5:30pm

On October 8 at 4:00 p.m. in CL 501, the Children's Literature Program will be hosting a book discussion by Patricia Crain, NYU Professor and award-winning author of Reading Children: Literacy, Property, and Dilemmas of Childhood in Nineteenth-Century America (2017) and The Story of A: The Alphabetization of America from The New England Primer to The Scarlet Letter (2000).

Dr. Crain will be talking about her work for Reading Children, which won the 2017 Early American Literature Book Prize. This fascinating book discusses how, over the course of the nineteenth century, the ideal child came to be a reading child. Dr. Crain considers the significance of this change, as well as its impact. This event will be open to the public and Dr. Crain's books will be available for purchase!
