Dr. Marcia Chatelain to speak at Pitt about #FergusonSyllabus

In August 2014, Dr. Marcia Chatelain created the hashtag #fergusonsyllabus in order to generate and share a crowdsourced syllabus about African American history, civil rights, and racialized policing. She will be at the Humanities Center (602 Cathedral of Learning) on February 9 at 5:30 for a lecture called "#FergusonSyllabus: Social Media Bring the Humanities into Public Debate." An Associate Professor of History at Georgetown University, Dr. Chatelain is both a highly respected scholar--author most recently of a fabulous book in the history of childhood, South Side Girls: Growing Up in the Great Migration (Duke University Press, 2015)--and a creative public intellectual, working not only through social media but through means like her piece in The Atlantic, "How to Teach Kids About What's Happening in Ferguson" (Aug. 25, 2014) to address issues related to childhood and race.
