Winners of Children’s Literature Program Paper Prize Announced

The Children’s Literature Program sponsors an annual internal competition to reward the best undergraduate essay written for a Pitt children’s literature class. This year:

First Prize went to Alexandra Roden for “An Exploration into the Presentation of Heteronormativity in The Perks of Being a Wallflower." Alexandra’s essay was written in a class taught by Kerry Mockler.

Second Prize went to Craig Ranallo for his essay “Bridge to the Queer." Craig’s essay was written for a class taught by Amanda Chapman Phillips.

Honorable mentions went to:

o  Julianne Griffith for her essay “In Pursuit of the Infinite: Trauma and Transcendence in The Perks of Being a Wallflower” (also written for Kerry Mockler)

o  Colette Slagle for “‘Freeing Dobby’: Violence in a Changing Children’s Culture” (written for Courtney Weikle-Mills)
