Welcome

Books written for children are among the best loved and best remembered of all works of literature. They also provide some of the most important early learning experiences.

The English Department’s undergraduate Certificate in Children’s Literature offers students an opportunity to bring together studies across a broad range of subjects. Founded in 1981, this interdisciplinary program is designed to meet the individual student’s interests and strengths. It provides a useful background for many areas of professional work and study, including graduate study in a variety of fields (English, Cultural Studies, Women’s Studies, History, Art History), teacher education, child development/care, sociology, psychology, creative writing and illustration, library science, publishing, journalism, and bookselling.
