“Writing Youth Literature” Instructor’s Book Optioned by MTV!

Siobhan Vivian, who teaches our popular “Writing Youth Literature” course, has some exciting news: her Young Adult novel The List (2012) has been optioned for television by MTV!

Screenwriter Liz Maccie (Make It or Break It) will adapt the book for a TV series. Her husband, writer/director Stephen Chbosky (The Perks of Being a Wallflower), will serve as executive producer and direct the series pilot if he is available.

Vivian’s novel chronicles what happens to a group of girls at Mount Washington High after a list gets posted all over their school that ranks the ugliest and prettiest girl in each grade. On the Publisher’s Weekly website, Maccie and Chbosky praise the book for its “honest, realistic, truthful storytelling,” calling it “the perfect blend of heart and drama.” Read the whole article here[1].

Pitt students are very lucky to have the chance to take a creative writing course with Siobhan: ENGWRT 0540 “Writing Youth Literature.” Her students have gone on to internships at Sesame Street Productions and the Harvey Klinger Literary Agency in New York.
